As dry as Gandhi's flip flop #HeatStress

I completely #honour the #statistics produced by the #HSE or falls and slips & trips whilst understanding our risk of working at height, but boy oh boy this heat is a hidden killer #heatstress

Me and one of my fellas are currently sitting 80’ up in the air on a Standard #TG20:13 tower hiding under the top lift like trolls living under a bridge and mouths as dry as Gandhi's flip flop.

People that don’t work in this heat love 🕶☀ #sunshine I #dislike it with a #passion. Tube and fittings get as hot as the ladies watching Channing Tatum cutting shapes on the dance floor….. give me sun cream, hat and a tree to sit under anytime!

Every 2 lifts we are going through 2 litres of water and spraying sun cream on our bare skin and we are feeling the strain, one more lift then handrails and we are done. No one wants this job done as much as me, wages, overheads running cost to cover even before thinking about profit that turns into reinvestment but the welfare and safety of my work force are top of my list

I never met my either of my Grandads but both turned out to be leaders in both British Army and Royal Airforce. It would have been great to understand how they commanded their fellow brothers in arms but I know when enough is enough, irrespective of whether the client just wants the job done. My lot come first, I’ll give my last score in my pocket for water, teas or coffees even if I’ve forgot my card and not got enough for myself.

If you're suffering from Heatstress and your body has no means of controlling its internal temperature you’re in big trouble, your body will fail.

I watch and listen for the changes in the morale and behavior over time especially in the heat and if i'm not on site, keep in contact with the charge hand to get a #siprep if cooling down isn’t happen by removing clothing, drinking, applying sun cream or reducing the work rate…. That’s us, tools down.

Mahatma Gandhi said ”Live as if you were to die tomorrow; learn as if you were to live forever.”

Well brother you never scaffolded 100’ up in the air in the 35’ heat. We live today to live again tomorrow.
